Influenza season is upon us. The flu is a contagious virus that spreads through coughing or sneezing. It causes thousands of hospitalizations and deaths every year. Getting immunized is the single best way to protect yourself and loved ones from getting sick.

The VA and Walgreens have teamed up to make it easier for Veterans to stay healthy. Protecting your health is as close as your local VA health care clinic, or neighborhood Walgreens. Veterans may receive their flu shot at the following locations:

Participating Walgreens Stores Nationwide
Eligible Veterans, enrolled in the VA health care system, no-cost flu shots now through March 31, 2019. Walgreens will securely transmit your flu shot record to your VA electronic health record. For store locations and hours, go to and select ‘Store Locator’.

Please remember that the type of vaccination offered at Walgreens is the seasonal vaccine only. If you need a different type of vaccine (high dose) please contact your VA Provider.

When you visit Walgreens for your flu shot:
  • Tell Walgreens staff you are a Veteran enrolled in the VA health care system
  • Show VA ID card and a second form of photo ID
  • Show staff member this letter
