Join the ICVA to discover the difference Telehealth Technology can make in Veteran Healthcare.

All Veterans who receive healthcare, or would like to receive healthcare, from the Iowa City VA healthcare system are invited to attend a Telehealth demonstration to discover the ways modern technology can change the way they receive healthcare.

What: Telehealth Demonstration

When: August 27, 2018; 1130-1400

Where: Iowa City VA main Hospital in room 3W101A (elevator C entrance)

What is Telehealth?

VA Telehealth uses health informatics, disease management and video technology for targeted care and increased access, with the goal of improving the health of Veterans. Telehealth changes the location where health care services are routinely provided.

What will the Event Involve?

The Iowa City VA Telehealth staff will provide education and live demonstrations of different telehealth opportunities throughout the event. There will be three booths set up in the conference room with a spokesperson at each to explain the different services that telehealth can offer. There will be opportunities for one-on-one questions throughout the event.

What is Video on Demand?

Video on Demand (VOD) is a branch of Telehealth. With VOD, appointments can occur at the spur of the moment or they can be scheduled at a future date and time like any other appointment. If you are on a phone call with your provider and a video might enhance the conversation, you could request that your provider initiate a video visit. You can also request that your future return appointment be conducted using a video chat.

What do I need for Video on Demand?

  • Any device with a camera, microphone, and the ability to reach the internet
  • This can be your smart phone, tablet, computer + webcam, laptop, etc.
  • A valid email address
  • A good internet connection, or a good connection to your cell service (4gLTE - 3 bars or more)

What are the benefits of Video on Demand?

  • You won’t have a Co-Pay (even to see a specialist)
  • You can avoid traffic
  • You will save money on gas and reduce wear and tear on your vehicle
  • You don’t have to physically visit any VA site
  • You can see providers in the convenience and privacy of your own home or anywhere you have a good internet or cell connection

If you travel to warmer weather for the winter, you can use VOD to keep appointments with your provider rather than seeing a new doctor
