Substance Abuse/Dual Diagnosis

Interns will gain experience and knowledge working with veterans with substance use disorders (SUD) and dual diagnoses.  They will have the opportunity to work with SUD and dual diagnosis patients through assessments and therapeutic interventions specific to this population.  Interns will work with patients in varying stages of change, beginning with precontemplation, and will assist patients in gaining greater awareness of the problems involved in maintaining abstinence and treatment aftercare.  Interns who choose this rotation will also have an opportunity to facilitate substance abuse groups as well as work with patients on an inpatient unit.  Interns will gain experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
