Application Information
Match Policies
The Iowa City VAMC is not currently a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) but fully intends to apply for membership; please note that there is no guarantee that our program will ultimately be successful in attaining approval for membership. However, this internship site intends to follow APPIC guidelines and to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept, or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant.
In accordance with the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Program, interns accepted here may be asked to submit a urine specimen at the beginning of the training year. In addition, the Office of Personnel Management requires a criminal background check of all prospective interns.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following prerequisites to be considered for our program:
- Doctoral student in an APA-accredited Clinical, Counseling, Professional Psychology program or in an APA approved respecialization training program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology;
- Approval for internship status by their graduate program training director;
- A minimum of 500 direct intervention and assessment hours of supervised graduate level pre-internship practicum experience;
- U.S. citizenship
Application Procedures
Applications will be accepted during the APPIC Clearinghouse. Application materials may be submitted via email as .doc or .pdf files to Dr. Doris J. Stormoen at doris.stormoen@va.gov. Please submit the following:
- Cover letter
- Curriculum Vitae
- APPIC Application for Psychology Internship (APPI)
(a) Part 1
(b) Part 2
- Certification of Readiness for Internship by academic program Training Director – Applicants should have their Director of Training email this from his/her university email account.
- Three letters of recommendation (sent as an email attachment from the letter writer's institutional email account; interviews may be scheduled prior to receipt of these letters).
The above materials will be used to screen potential applicants for telephone interviews.
A copy of your graduate transcripts may be requested but need not be submitted with the initial application materials listed above; if requested, unofficial copies will be accepted due to time constraints.
