2004-2007 Joint Commission Accreditation
The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits healthcare organizations on standards of quality and safety of patient care in the United States. Iowa City VA Health Care System was accredited in 2004 with its accreditation maintained through 2007.
College of American Pathologists (CAP) Accreditation
In 2007, the Iowa City VAMC Orthotic and Prostetic Lab received this accreditation from the American Board for Certification. Accreditation is for a period of two years.
Shared Medical Appointments
Shared Medical Appointments (SMA) at Iowa City VAMC were highlighted in the National Association of VA Ambulatory Care Managers in an article entitled, Using Shared Medical Appointments as a Tool for Advanced Clinic Access. The article explains how SMAs are a more efficient way to provide care while increasing the quality of care and patient and provider satisfaction.
